Antique Bog Oak Gold inlay Mourning Chatelaine Brooch

What a rare treat this is! Made of bog oak this gold inlaid ( almost like damascene) chatelaine brooch is more like a piece of art than jewelry. If you hold your nose to it you can smell a strong odor of a poignant wood. Once you smell that you can identify this wonderful jewelry component again and again. This has the brooch pin back, a chain with an additional pin and also two tiny holes at the top where a thin chain would have been threaded thru to have this as a necklace. The metal work is very good and the bow at the top leads me to believe that it is a truly a mourning brooch. This brooch measures almost 1 1/2" across and is all HAND carved. You can even see a little piece of sap coming from it. Very minor wear and microscopic holes are all that is wrong with this delightful piece of jewelry. Always one of kind, these are rare and quite collectible.

Vintage Victorian MOURNING Neoclassical Cameo Drop Necklace

This late 1800's to early 1900's black cameo drop necklace is quite elegant and as you can see these neoclassical cameos are old with headbands and flowers in their hair. I think by the looks of the back they are carved jet and not glass. They look as if they have been laquered on the front while the back remains original flat black. I would guess they are constructed to resemble the original carved lava cameos but made for a person with less money than one who could afford to have the famous carvers do theirs. These are old and original to the necklace and the raised relief florettes that stradle these beauties really set off the patina that is needed to bring out the faces. The chain ( see closeup) is a fancy etched slender link chain. This measures 16" long around the neck. It is in great shape and has not been polished to protect the patina on it. Even lovelier in person this is a fabulous old piece.

Victorian Jet Mourning enamel drop vintage necklace

The necklace has a double strand of filigree and faceted black glass beads that hold this beautiful repousse hanger that holds the long drop. The necklace will go up to 21 1/2" long and has a fish hook clasp. The drop is an additional 2 1/4" long.

Victorian Vinaigrette Bacchus Cherub Chatelaine

What an EXTRAORDINARY Victorian Vinaigrette or pomander this is! Hidden in the depths of cherubs and Bacchus there is a vase shaped compartment with a tiny piece of cotton which would have been used to hold a young woman's favorite scent or oil ( or even smelling salts). The brooch is HUGE ( 3 1/2" wide x 3 1/4" long) and heavy and really well made. IT has layers of metal work with the cherubs on each side as well as Bacchus the God of Wine who is guarding this fabulous aesthetic piece! 1890's VIctorian Buckle bracelet tassel necklace and tassle earrings PARURE

TO have all the original pieces to this set is quite a rare treat, but these are all original to each other and part of a NY estate that held some gorgeous pieces.
This suite has the Necklace, the wide hinged buckle bracelet and the matching screw on earrings. All have raised relief faux buckle motifs and each are made of brass. The bracelet is 1 1/4" wide ( see ruler for meters) and measures 7 1/3" on the inside. It also has its original safety chain. The hinge and clasp work great.

The necklace has a rich golden patina snake brass chain that is tightly woven and it matches all the tassels. The box clasp is really the nicest finishing touch to the 16" long chain. The center piece measures 6" from linked end to end and 2 1/2" at its longest.

The screw on earrings are 1 1/2" long.

Antique ROSE GOLD French Diamond hallmarked Brooch necklace

This originated from Paris and was passed on to a family who eventually moved to NY. 3 or 4 generations back, with no heirs, this was sold at auction and we were fortunate enough to purchase it. THis is 18kt or 22kt higher ROSE gold with 7 ( lucky 7) genuine diamonds set in white gold or platinum stars. There are a few French hallmarks on it and the one I could make out the best is a horse's head with what looks like an hour glass with a flat bottom and top. ( see photo) The hallmark depicted here ( the horse head) is a French hallmark that was struck in gold jewelry. It was used between 1838 and 1919.Before 1910, French platinum jewelry may have a maker's mark, but it was not hallmarked, which is why I think the white metal maybe platinum. As you can see from the exquisite cagework sides, this was a high quality piece. I found a pretty link 24" gold filled chain ( included in this sale) that the brooch fit nicely on. This can give you an idea of the different ways you can use such a wonderful antique piece. The 7 diamonds are crudely cut which makes me believe they were hand cut or on a machine that didn't use electricity. Possibly rose or diamond cut. All the diamonds were tested and are genuine. They measure about 2 cm's across and are flat on top ( on some). Assayed French gold is never lower than 18k which is why I know this is 18 or 22kt. IT is in fine condition and as I said, I am including the chain so you can wear it more than one way. Vintage Victorian Pietra dura Mosaic Floral Necklace

This is like a little piece of Italian art history on a beautiful necklace. BLack onyx or marble that has slices of colored stones are cut with a small saw or copper wire into shapes and fitted together to form this lovely floral design. Usually these were memorial pieces that held the memory of a loved one. This one has a silver tone chain that is 16" long and is made to look like a slither serpent. The drop is an additional 2" long. This has a pretty filigree antique clasp that just finishes this feminine necklace. IT is in very good condition too! Vintage Edwardian Amethyst Glass necklace

Delicate filigree wrap themselves around a large faceted amethyst glass open back stone. The drop on this Edwardian necklace is truly gorgeous and it measures 3" long with a faux glass pearl drop end. The beautiful and intricate metal lace travels up the necklace along with 4 amethyst glass beads and 2 more glass pearls. The length around the neck is 21" with an antique filigree slide in clasp.The chain on this is hand wrought and really unusual.
